The Virtues of Chaand Raat: Special Acts of Worship on the Night Before Eid

-

Chaand Raat, or the night before Eid, holds special significance in Islam. It marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan and the beginning of the month of Shawwal. While it is a night of joy and celebration, it is also a time for worship, supplication, and self-purification.

Best Acts of Worship on Chaand Raat

Performing Nafl (voluntary) prayers: Engaging in extra prayers on this night brings immense rewards. Offering two or more Rak’ahs of Tahajjud prayer is highly recommended.

Reciting the Holy Quran: As Ramadan comes to an end, reading and reflecting on the Quran is a source of great blessings.

Making Dua (Supplication) & Seeking Forgiveness: The last moments of Ramadan are a golden opportunity to repent and ask for Allah’s mercy for oneself and the entire Muslim Ummah.

Giving Charity & Sadaqah: Helping the poor and needy is one of the best deeds of this night. It is also a good time to pay Sadaqat-ul-Fitr, a mandatory charity before Eid prayer.

Preparing for Eid Modestly: While preparing for Eid, one should avoid extravagance and ensure their actions align with Islamic teachings.

Islamic Perspective on Chaand Raat

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:
“Whoever spends the nights before the two Eids (Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha) in worship, his heart will not die on the Day when hearts will perish.” (Ibn Majah, Hadith: 3850)

This hadith highlights the immense blessings of worshipping on Chaand Raat. Instead of engaging in wasteful activities, Muslims are encouraged to utilize this sacred night in prayer and remembrance of Allah.
