The English Premier League is set to make history in European football as a record nine clubs will participate in UEFA competitions next season. Out of the 20 teams that competed in the recently concluded Premier League season, nine have secured spots across UEFA’s three major tournaments: the Champions League, Europa League, and Europa Conference League.
Due to England’s high UEFA coefficient ranking, the Premier League has been allocated five spots in next season’s UEFA Champions League. The five teams qualifying directly through their league positions are Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Newcastle United.
The biggest surprise, however, comes from Tottenham Hotspur. Despite finishing 17th in the league after losing 22 of their 38 matches, the North London side has earned a Champions League spot by winning the UEFA Europa League — securing their return to Europe’s elite competition.
Aston Villa, who finished sixth in the league, will play in the UEFA Europa League, while Crystal Palace also secured a Europa League berth by winning the FA Cup.
Newcastle United, despite winning the Carabao Cup, already qualified for the Champions League through a fifth-place league finish. As a result, Nottingham Forest, who finished seventh, will enter the UEFA Europa Conference League play-off round.
This marks a significant milestone for English football, with a record-breaking nine Premier League clubs set to feature in European competitions in the 2025–26 season.
