India-Pakistan Conflict 2025: Airstrikes, Retaliation, and Global Concerns

-

Tensions between India and Pakistan have dramatically escalated, sparking global concern after a series of military strikes and counterattacks. On Tuesday, India launched “Operation Sindhur,” carrying out airstrikes on nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. The Indian government claims the operation was a direct response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which killed 26 tourists. India has blamed the Pakistan-based militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba for the deadly incident.

In response, Pakistan labeled the Indian airstrikes as a “declaration of war” and launched a counteroffensive, claiming to have shot down five Indian fighter jets. The retaliatory action reportedly resulted in the deaths of seven Indian civilians.

The rapid escalation has drawn strong reactions from the international community. The United Nations, along with key global powers including the United States, China, Russia, France, and the United Kingdom, has called on both nuclear-armed nations to exercise maximum restraint. Analysts have warned that continued aggression could spiral into a broader conflict, potentially involving nuclear weapons.

Pakistan’s Information Minister claimed that Indian forces were seen displaying white flags near the border — an alleged sign of surrender. Meanwhile, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar reaffirmed India’s policy of “zero tolerance” towards terrorism, emphasizing national security.

As tensions mount, experts and diplomats stress the urgent need for dialogue and international mediation to prevent further escalation and ensure regional stability.
