India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire starting from 5 PM IST on Saturday, following U.S.-led mediation efforts, U.S. President Donald Trump announced.
In a post on Truth Social, President Trump stated, “After long overnight negotiations mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire.”
He congratulated both nations, adding, “Congratulations to both countries for their sense and tremendous wisdom. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio also confirmed the development, stating that both countries had agreed to an immediate ceasefire and to begin extensive discussions at a neutral location.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Rubio added, “We applaud the wisdom, prudence, and leadership of Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Sharif, who have chosen the path of peace.”
He further said that he and Senator J.D. Vance had spent the past 48 hours in dialogue with senior Indian and Pakistani officials, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed the agreement as well, stating, “Pakistan has always strived for peace and security in the region without compromising its sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that both countries agreed to halt all forms of military activity—on land, in the air, and at sea—starting from 5 PM IST.
He added that at 3:35 PM IST, Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) called his Indian counterpart, and both sides agreed to enforce the ceasefire from 5 PM local time. Orders have been issued on both sides to implement the agreement, and the DGMOs are scheduled to speak again at 12 PM on Monday.
