BNP Activist Killed in Jessore’s Sharsha Upazila Over Previous Enmity

-

A local activist of the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), identified as Liton (30), was reportedly hacked to death on Tuesday night in the Durgapur village of Sharsha upazila under Jessore district, allegedly due to longstanding enmity.

The incident took place around 10 PM in Durgapur, a border village under Lakshmanpur Union of Sharsha upazila. The deceased, Liton, was the son of Azgar Ali, a resident of the same village.

According to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nishat Al Nahian of the Navaran Circle, Liton was drinking tea at a local market in the evening when he was attacked by two local men, Selim and Ramzan, who allegedly hacked him with sharp weapons. Hearing his screams, locals rushed to the scene, prompting the attackers to flee.

Liton was quickly taken to the Sharsha Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.

ASP Nahian added that initial investigations suggest the murder was motivated by prior hostility. Law enforcement is actively investigating the case and efforts are ongoing to arrest those involved.

Sharsha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) KM Rabiul Islam confirmed that police operations are underway to capture the suspects connected to the killing.
