The 44th death anniversary of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman, the founder of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and former President of Bangladesh, is being observed with due respect and a series of events organized by the Jashore district BNP and its affiliated organizations.
The three-day program began on Friday (May 30) with the hoisting of the national and party flags and wearing of black badges at the district BNP office at Lal Dighi intersection at 6:00 AM. At 10:00 AM, a prayer session was organized by the district BNP and the BNP-affiliated Olama Dal, seeking eternal peace for Ziaur Rahman’s soul. Following this, a voluntary blood donation program was held, organized by the district Chhatra Dal.
The programs were attended by BNP Vice Chairperson Professor Nargis Begum and Acting Organizing Secretary for Khulna Division, Anindya Islam Amit. They later divided into teams and joined food distribution events and other community activities in various wards and unions of the city and Sadar upazila.
Anindya Islam Amit participated in a prayer and food distribution program arranged by the Ward No. 5 unit of Jubo Dal. He also attended events in areas including Kharika and Bejpara. Meanwhile, Professor Nargis Begum joined a similar program organized by the Ward No. 3 unit of BNP in Ghop and subsequently took part in additional events in other areas.
These programs are still ongoing.
During his speech at one of the events, Anindya Islam Amit said, “Ziaur Rahman is a great national leader who remains a shining symbol of ideals and inspiration for the Bengali nation. As long as Bangladesh exists, the memory of Shaheed Zia will live in the hearts of the people. The freedom-loving people will continue to draw courage and inspiration from his life in the struggle to protect independence and sovereignty.”
Other prominent leaders present at the events included Jashore district BNP President Advocate Syed Saberul Haque Sabu, General Secretary Delwar Hossain Khokon, Organizing Secretary Engineer Robiul Islam, BNP leaders Advocate Md. Ishaq, Mizanur Rahman Khan, Maruful Islam, Munir Ahmed Siddiqui Bacchu, Advocate Haji Anisur Rahman Mukul, City BNP General Secretary Ehsanul Haque Setu, District Jubo Dal Convener M. Tamal Ahmed and Member Secretary Ansarul Haque Rana, District Swechchhasebak Dal President Mostafa Amir Faisal and General Secretary Rajidur Rahman Sagar, and Acting President of District Chhatra Dal Omar Faruk Tarek along with General Secretary Kamruzzaman Bappy.
Additionally, BNP leaders organized special prayers at various mosques throughout the district on Friday. A discussion meeting will be held at the BD Hall in Jashore on Saturday, June 1, at 3:00 PM under the initiative of the district BNP.
