A tragic incident occurred in Jessore Sadar upazila when a schoolboy named Mishkat Rahman Sultan (12) died after being struck by lightning while playing football. The incident took place around 10:30 AM on Friday (July 4) at the playground of Kamaraganya Government Primary School in Ichhali Union.
Sultan was the son of Md. Russel Hossain of Kamaraganya village and a sixth-grade student at Ichhali Secondary School.
According to Sultan’s mother, Selina Begum, school was closed that day, and he went to the playground in the morning to play football with his friends. During the game, it suddenly began to rain, followed by a lightning strike that severely injured him. Locals quickly rushed him to Jessore 250-bed General Hospital, where emergency department doctor Dr. Zubaida Afsana declared him dead around 11:30 AM.
According to the doctor’s initial assessment, Sultan died as a result of the lightning strike.
