Tension prevails in the village of Dubpara in Benapole, Jessore, following the killing of a man named Abdul Hai amid a dispute over the Eid-ul-Azha prayer congregation. Abdul Hai was reportedly affiliated with the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
The conflict began on Saturday morning when some Awami League supporters attempted to offer Eid prayers at the local Eidgah field in Dubpara. They were reportedly obstructed by Abu Sayeed, son of Jamser Ali, senior vice-president of the local BNP ward unit.
In an effort to resolve the conflict, local BNP leaders, including Ward President Ashanur Rahman Asha and General Secretary Moktar Ali, mediated a truce between the two sides.
Despite the earlier settlement, the situation escalated later that evening. Around 9 PM on Saturday, Abdul Hai was sitting at a tea stall when he was targeted in a bomb attack. He died on the spot due to the blast.
The incident has sparked panic and unrest in the area, with a heavy law enforcement presence now deployed to maintain order.
