Investigation Launched Over Leaked Video of Drug Theft at Jessore General Hospital

-

A video showing the theft of government-supplied medicines from Jessore General Hospital has sparked widespread discussion on social media. In response, the hospital authorities have formed a three-member investigation committee, headed by the hospital’s Residential Medical Officer (RMO), according to Superintendent Dr. Hossain Shafayat.

The committee has been directed to submit its report within six working days.

The incident occurred on July 1, when 12 cartons of sensitive medication — including drugs allocated for HIV patients, lubricants, and other medical supplies — were illegally transported to a private residence. The matter came to light the following day, but gained renewed attention after a video of the incident circulated widely on social media on Thursday.

Hospital authorities have now taken the matter seriously. However, such incidents are not unprecedented. Similar reports of drug smuggling from the hospital have been previously published by the local newspaper Gramer Kagoj.
