Bangladesh Women Qualify for 2025 Cricket World Cup

-

Bangladesh Women’s Cricket Team has secured a spot in the upcoming ICC Women’s World Cup, set to be held in India this September, thanks to a dramatic turn of events in the final round of the qualifiers.

After suffering a crushing defeat to Pakistan—losing by 7 wickets with 62 balls remaining—Bangladesh’s World Cup hopes appeared to be fading. Their qualification depended on the result of the match between West Indies and Thailand.

West Indies were tasked with chasing down Thailand’s target of 167 runs in just 10.1 overs to qualify. Although they secured a dominant 6-wicket win in 10.5 overs, they fell short of the required run rate. At the 10.1-over mark, they were still 10 runs away from victory, effectively ending their chances of making it to the World Cup.

As a result, Bangladesh edged ahead in the net run rate calculation and clinched the final qualification spot. Led by Nigar Sultana Joty, the team will now join seven other nations in the global tournament.

The 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup will feature eight teams. Host nation India had already qualified automatically, along with Australia, England, South Africa, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka. Pakistan secured their place by winning all five matches in the qualifying stage on home soil. Bangladesh now completes the lineup, taking the final ticket to the prestigious event.
